About the Conference 

The “Transformative Learning in Action” conference brings together educators, researchers, and school leaders to explore innovative practices that enhance knowledge and professionalism in teaching. This event offers a space for sharing strategies, reflecting on classroom practices, and building networks for long-term growth.

Under the theme “Transformative Learning in Action,” the conference provides a platform for sharing innovative teaching strategies, engaging in critical dialogue, and advancing professional learning in Nepal’s education system.

This one-day event will feature:

Keynote Speakers

Prof. Bal Chandra Luitel, PhD

Dean, Kathmandu University School of Education

Prof. Luitel completed M.Ed. (1997) from TU and Postgraduate Diploma (2002), an MSc (2003), and PhD in Mathematics Education (2009) from Curtin University.

His service at KU started in 1998 initially as Lecturer, Assistant Professor in 2005, Associate Professor in 2012, and Professor in 2018. Administratively he has served as the Coordinator of Research and Publication, Coordinator of Master Programs, and Associate Dean. In addition to this, he has worked as a Senate Member (Teacher Representative) for about three years. Currently, he is the Dean of the School of Education.

 

 

Bio of Workshop Facilitators

Binod panta sir

Binod Prasad Panta, PhD

Assistant Professor, KUSOED

Title of the workshop: Innovative Pedagogy 

Binod Prasad Pant, PhD is an Assistant Professor and Acting Head of the Department of STEAM Education at Kathmandu University School of Education, Nepal. He earned M Ed and MPhil in Mathematics Education and PhD in STEAM Education from Kathmandu University. He served as a visiting fellow at the University of Technology (UTS) Sydney after he received the Australian Award in 2017/18. Binod has been working with a number of Nepali teachers and teacher educators who examine their lived experiences as students, teachers and teacher educators. He speaks and writes about pedagogical innovations, uses of technology in education, child-friendly classroom, authentic assessment, etc.

Dr. Basu Prasad Subedi 

Assistant Professor, KUSOED

Title of the workshop: Leadership in Education

Dr. Basu Prasad Subedi currently works at Kathmandu University, school of education as a assistant professor in Department of Leadership in Education. Basu does research in Comparative Education, Educational Assessment and Educational Leadership. He completed his MPhil in Educational Leadership and PhD in Educational Leadership from KUSOED.

Dr. Parbati Dhungana

Acting Head DIEP, KUSOED

Title of the Workshop: Participatory Action Research 

Parbati Dhungana completed her PhD in 2022. She is Coordinator of the Continuing and Professional Education Center (CPEC) at Kathmandu University. She is facilitating many courses at the STEAM Department. She co-authored many textbooks, including Grade 9 and 10 English, published by Sano Thimi Bhaktapur. She presented and published many journal articles and book chapters in national and international spaces. She has more than two decades of teaching experience from Kindergarten to University, with multiple leadership responsibilities. She has been engaging in TPD curriculum planning, designing and implementation in collaboration with governmental and non-governmental institutions since 2016.

 

 

Sushil Shrestha sir

Sushil Shrestha, PhD

Associate Professor, KUSOE

Title of the workshop: AI in Education

Dr. Sushil Shrestha is an Associate Professor at Kathmandu University’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering, where he leads the Digital Learning Research Lab. With a strong academic background, he holds a PhD in Learning Analytics (2021) and a Master’s in Higher Education (2023) from Kathmandu University, along with an M.Tech in IT (2012) and a Bachelor’s in Computer Science (2007).

A dedicated educator, Dr. Shrestha has taught a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses, including Artificial Intelligence in Education, Data Mining, Knowledge Management, and Human-Computer Interaction. He is also an active speaker and trainer, conducting workshops on AI, digital pedagogy, research methodology, and e-learning. His recent engagements include sessions at NCDC 2024, LIKE 2023, and the AI in Education webinar.

As an organizer, he has contributed to key events like the PostgreSQL Conference Nepal and the ICDRET 2018 conference. His research interests span learning analytics, digital education, and AI applications in academia. Dr. Shrestha has participated in international programs across South Korea, the Philippines, Poland, and more, broadening his expertise in ICT for development.

Committed to bridging technology and education, he has trained teachers, researchers, and professionals in Nepal and beyond, fostering digital literacy and innovative teaching practices. His work reflects a passion for inclusive, technology-driven learning solutions.

 

 

Chet Nath Panta

Dr. Chet Nath Panta

Visiting Faculty, KUSOED

Title of the workshop: Students and Teachers’ Well being

Dr. Chet Nath Panta completed his PhD in Educational Leadership. The PhD research focused on compassionate leadership embracing the lens of contemplative inquiry. He serves as a visiting faculty at , School of Education, KU. He is avidly engaged in teacher professional development and leadership capacity-building workshops, wellbeing seminars, and publications. His areas of research interest include critical pedagogy, contemplative inquiry, dimensions of educational/ school leadership (compassionate and transformative leadership), wellbeing communication and leadership, Nonviolent Communication (NVC), and Appreciative Inquiry (AI).
