About the Conference
The “Transformative Learning in Action” conference brings together educators, researchers, and school leaders to explore innovative practices that enhance knowledge and professionalism in teaching. This event offers a space for sharing strategies, reflecting on classroom practices, and building networks for long-term growth.
Under the theme “Transformative Learning in Action,” the conference provides a platform for sharing innovative teaching strategies, engaging in critical dialogue, and advancing professional learning in Nepal’s education system.
This one-day event will feature:

Prof. Dr. Bal Chandra Luitel, PhD
Dean, Kathmandu University School of Education
I completed M Ed (1997) from TU and Postgraduate Diploma (2002), MSc (2003), and Ph.D. in Mathematics Education (2009) from Curtin University.
My service at KU started in 1998 initially as Lecturer, Assistant Professor in 2005, Associate Professor in 2012, and Professor in 2018. Administratively I have served as the Coordinator of Research and Publication, Coordinator of Master Programs, and Associate Dean. I have worked as a Senate Member (Teacher Representative) for about three years. Currently, I am the Dean of the School of Education.
Dr. Kapil Adhikari, Ph.D. (Physics)
Dean (Science and Technology)
I am Kapil Adhikari, PhD in Physics with a specialization in Computational Condensed Matter Physics. I serve as the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology at Gandaki University, Pokhara, Nepal. My academic journey began with an MSc in Physics, followed by a doctoral degree from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2012. I have a strong background in theoretical and computational nanoscience, with expertise in electronic-structure simulations using tools such as VASP, Quantum Espresso, and Python. In addition to my academic and research roles, I am deeply committed to promoting science education through the development of low-cost, hands-on physics experiments for undergraduate students. My research interests include polymorphism in molecular crystals, nanostructures, and porous materials. As Dean, I am actively involved in strengthening academic programs, fostering research culture, and advancing science, technology, and innovation for sustainable development in the region.

Sushil Shrestha, PhD
Associate Professor, KUSOE
Title of the workshop: AI in Education
I am Sushil Shrestha, Associate Professor at Kathmandu University School of Education (KUSOED). With a PhD in Information and Communication Technology in Education, I specialize in the intersection of digital technology and pedagogy. My academic work focuses on harnessing emerging technologies to enhance teaching, learning, and educational leadership. I have led and participated in various national and international research projects related to ICT integration, e-learning, and digital transformation in education. As a passionate educator and researcher, I strive to bridge the gap between technological advancements and classroom practices. In the workshop titled "AI in Education," I explore how artificial intelligence can be meaningfully integrated into teaching and learning environments, addressing both opportunities and ethical concerns. My goal is to empower educators to use AI tools thoughtfully to support student learning, foster innovation, and contribute to the evolution of education in the digital age.
Dr. Basu Prasad Subedi

Title of the workshop: Leadership and Professional Development
Dr. Basu Prasad Subedi currently works at Kathmandu University, school of education as a assistant professor in Department of Leadership in Education. Basu does research in Comparative Education, Educational Assessment and Educational Leadership. He completed his MPhil in Educational Leadership and PhD in Educational Leadership from KUSOED.
Parbati Dhungana, PhD
Assisstant Professor, KUSOED
Title of the Workshop: Participatory Action Research
Parbati Dhungana completed her PhD in 2022. She is Coordinator of the Continuing and Professional Education Center (CPEC) at Kathmandu University. She is facilitating many courses at the STEAM Department. She co-authored many textbooks, including Grade 9 and 10 English, published by Sano Thimi Bhaktapur. She presented and published many journal articles and book chapters in national and international spaces. She has more than two decades of teaching experience from Kindergarten to University, with multiple leadership responsibilities. She has been engaging in TPD curriculum planning, designing and implementation in collaboration with governmental and non-governmental institutions since 2016.
Shree Krishna Wagle, PhD

Title of the workshop: Students and Teachers Well Being
Mr. Shree Krishna Wagle completed his MPhil in educational leadership from Kathmandu University School of Education (KUSOED) in 2016. He has degree of MA in English literature (2010) from St. Xavier’s College, TU. He is particularly interested in education, philosophy and Psychology.
As a part of his MA in English Literature he made extensive research studies on existential post-modern predicaments of human beings. Thereafter, he visited more than 50 different institutional schools from Kathmandu Valley and nearby districts as school-based motivational speaker. He completed his PhD from KUSOED in psyschology and well being.
Baburam Dhungana, PhD

I am Baburam Dhungana, an advocate for inclusive education and equity in Nepal’s school systems. With a doctorate in Inclusive Education, I have dedicated my professional life to promoting educational opportunities for children with special needs and those from marginalized backgrounds. I have served as the Director of the Curriculum Development Center (CDC) and the Administrative Chief of the National Youth Council, contributing to national policy reform. Through my involvement in government, academia, and civil society, I have worked to ensure that every child receives the support they need to thrive. As Chairperson of TEAM Nepal, I lead projects that provide nutrition, technology, and educational support to underserved students. I have published extensively on emotional and behavioral disorders, teacher development, and inclusive pedagogy. My vision is a Nepali education system that embraces diversity, nurtures all learners, and prepares educators to teach with empathy and innovation.

Lok Nath Acharya
Unit Chief (Under Secretary)
Education Development and Coordination Unit (EDCU), Karki
I am Lok Nath Acharya, currently serving as the Unit Chief (Under Secretary) at the Education Development and Coordination Unit (EDCU), Kaski. With a Master’s Degree in Education, specializing in Educational Planning and Management from Tribhuvan University, I have devoted over two decades to Nepal’s education sector. My professional journey began as a secondary-level English teacher, a role I served in for six years before transitioning into educational administration in 2055 BS. Since then, I have actively engaged in various capacities within District Education Offices. I have participated in and facilitated numerous educational, managerial, and disaster management trainings, and have worked as a trainer in areas such as school leadership, SIP, VEP, and DEP. I also write occasionally for journals and newspapers and have contributed to the development of educational manuals. My passion lies in strengthening educational systems through effective planning, community engagement, and capacity-building initiatives.

Sita Gaundel (Gaihre)

Sita Gaundel (Gaihre) comes from Waling Municipality in Syangja and has over 20 years of dedicated experience in education. She currently serves as Headteacher at Laxmi Secondary School in Waling, where she is known for implementing innovative teaching methods and fostering student success. Beyond her administrative role, she is deeply committed to teaching mentorship throughout Waling Municipality, supporting fellow educators to elevate their professional practices.
A passionate social activist, Sita works tirelessly to improve educational outcomes and champion community development. Her leadership extends past school walls, as she partners with local stakeholders to create inclusive learning environments and promote equity in education. With a blend of pedagogical expertise, community engagement, and advocacy, Sita Gaundel is a respected figure in her region-shaping not only the academic but also the personal growth of her students and fellow teachers.
Laxmi Sharma
Visiting Faculty, Kathmandu University
I am Laxmi Sharma, a PhD Scholar at Kathmandu University School of Education, holding an MPhil in Educational Leadership and a Master's in English Literature. With 14 years of experience as a secondary-level teacher, I have cultivated a deep commitment to educational transformation through research and reflective practice. My research interests span exploratory action research, flipped classrooms, counselling and wellbeing, digital leadership, artificial intelligence, parenting education, and teacher research. I am passionate about exploring innovative teaching methods that enhance student learning outcomes and empower educators in today’s dynamic educational landscape. My work is grounded in the belief that meaningful change in education stems from continuous inquiry, collaboration, and a focus on learner-centered strategies. Through my research and practice, I aim to foster a culture of thoughtful teaching and lifelong learning that supports both student success and teacher development.
