About the Conference 

The “Transformative Learning in Action” conference brings together educators, trainers, researchers, and institutional leaders from both Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and General Education sectors. This event serves as a collaborative platform to explore innovative teaching methodologies, industry-aligned skills development, and transformative practices that enhance professionalism in education.

Under the theme “Transformative Learning in Action,” the conference will facilitate the exchange of best practices, promote critical dialogue, and strengthen Nepal’s education system by bridging the gap between TVET and general education.

This one-day event will feature:

All sessions will focus on reflective teaching, employability skills, and inclusive education to foster holistic learning.

laxman gnawali

Prof. Laxman Gyawali, PhD

Kathmandu University School of Education

Dr. Laxman Gnawali is a Professor of English Education at the Department of Language Education. An alumnus of Kathmandu University, Nepal, University of Exeter, England, and Hornby Trust, he taught English language at primary, secondary and tertiary levels before coming to the field of EFL teacher education and training. He now leads degree and short-term EFL teacher education and trainers training programmes. He has co-authored EFL textbooks for school students and special education learners, and designed English language development courses for teachers as well. His national and international contributions include articles and book chapters on ELT methodology and materials, action research, and teacher networking and professional development. He has contributed to ELT Survey of Nepal, Examination Reform Project, English Language Course Development for Primary English Teachers in South and East Asia and several other ELT related projects. He is actively involved in the ELT community in Nepal and he currently serves NELTA as its Senior Vice President. 




 

Dhurba Gautam

Prof. Dhurba Kumar Gautam

Vice Chancellor, Mid Western University

Prof. Gautam did a Ph.D. in Strategic Management and gained a dual degree in MBA, and MPA, all from Nepal, and a Diploma in Changing Perspectives on culture from Stockholm University, Sweden. He served being an Adjunct Professor at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) Thailand, a Board member of the case study center of Birala Institute of Management and Technology (BIMTECH) Delhi, a Visiting Professor at Dong-A University, South Korea, and a research associate at Texas Christine University (TCU), Neeley School of Business, USA. He has delivered public speeches at Rutgers Business School (New York), Neeley School of Business, TCU (Texas), Youngstown State University (Ohio), Jilin University (China), Mongolian National University (Magnolia), National Economics University (Vietnam), and others. He has visited leading universities in Europe, America, and Asia for academic activities, research, and presentations.

Suresh Gautam

Suresh Gautam, PhD

Assistant Professor, KUSOED

Title of the workshop: Sustainability Framework for school teachers

I am from Dang District of Nepal. I am living with two daughters and a wife in Lalitpur, now. I have been associated with Kathmandu University Since 2009 as a student and visiting faculty. In 2015, I was appointed as a lecturer under the project of Locating Public Finance Dynamics in Education in Nepal and as a tenured Assistant Professor in 2019.

My teaching career choice was not planned and desired when I started teaching in 2000 as a lower secondary level English teacher, but I taught health, population and environment, social studies for grade six and seven. Then gradually, I gained some qualities to be a teacher in schools and colleges which ultimately made me a teacher. I have spent around 21 years as a nomad teacher who moved from one to other schools and colleges frequently in Kathmandu.

Such metro struggle and experience of teaching directs my interest to research on transformative educational research, youth and adult education and qualitative research. I conducted the arts- based narrative research of urban youth in the metropolitan city, Kathmandu in PhD and literacy and adult education among Tharu women in Nepal as my M. Phil study. Kathmandu University School of Education awarded me both MPhil and PhD Degrees.

I have been teaching the courses such as Sociology of Education and Development, Sociology of Sustainable Development and Research methods in Kathmandu University School of Education. I also involve in inhouse research and publication of Kathmandu University vis. Journal of Education and Research. I was also awarded with Young Research Grant from University Grants Commission, International Visitor Leadership Program from the State Department of United State and COMPARE fellowship from British Association of International and Comparative Education.

 

 

Prakash Paudel

Prakash Kumar Paudel, PhD

Title of the workshop: Green Skills and Sustainable Practices in TVET in schools

Prakash Kumar Paudel is a researcher and PhD graduate at the Kathmandu University School of Education (KUSOED).  He completed his PhD in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). He acquired MPhil in Development Studies from KUSOED and also earned his Master Degree in Social Science from Tribhuvan University (TU). He has published his research based articles and book chapter in national and international peer reviewed journals. He has worked for government, non-government and international organizations as a researcher over a half decade. Mr. Paudel’s research interest areas include development education, technical and vocational education and training, as well as labour migration.

Title of the workshop: Innovative Pedagogy

D. R. Simkhada is an educator and scholar with extensive experience in mathematics education. He currently serves as a Visiting Faculty at Kathmandu University School of Education (KUSOED) and works as an Author and Editor at Readmore Publishers and Distributors. Mr. Simkhada holds two Master’s degrees in Mathematics Education; one from James Madison University (JMU), USA, and another from Kathmandu University (KU), Nepal. He also holds Master's degrees in Economics and Population Studies from Tribhuvan University, Nepal.

A dedicated academic, Mr. Simkhada is currently pursuing a PhD in Measurement and Assessment in Mathematics Education at JMU, USA. His contributions to the field include the authorship and editorial work of over 50 textbooks and reference books, published by both private publishers and the Curriculum Development Centre (CDC), Nepal. His expertise and commitment to advancing education make him a valued facilitator in workshops on teaching, learning, and assessment in mathematics.
