About the Conference
The “Transformative Learning in Action” conference brings together educators, researchers, and school leaders to explore innovative practices that enhance knowledge and professionalism in teaching. This one day event offers a space for sharing strategies, reflecting on classroom practices, and building networks for long-term growth.
Under the main theme “Transformative Learning in Action” the conference provides a platform for sharing innovative teaching strategies, engaging in critical dialogue, and advancing professional learning in Nepal’s education system. All sessions will focus on promoting reflective and transformative educational practices in schools and beyond.
Taking place across all seven provinces of Nepal, this event will feature:

Registration Charge
The participation fee is NPR 2,000 per person, which includes registration, breakfast, and lunch. All participants will receive a certificate of participation.

Keynote Speakers
Dr. Lava Deo Awasthi
Born in Baitadi district in the Far Western Province of Nepal, Dr. Lava Deo Awasthi earned school education in his home district. He did his MAs in English Literature from Tribhuvan University and in Applied Linguistics and TESOL from Leicester University, England, UK. He received his Ph.D. degree from the Danish University of Education, Copenhagen. Dr Awasthi served as the Secretary of the Government of Nepal and the Chairperson of the Language Commission. He also worked as the Director General of the Department of Education. Dr Awasthi is a visiting faculty at Kathmandu University, Far Western University, and Nepal Open University. Dr Awasthi has several publications to his credit including books and research articles in national and international journals. His areas of interest include language and pedagogy, education and empowerment, culture and cosmology. Dr Awasthi is a recipient of Suprabal Janasewashree; Nepal Vidya Bhusan; and the Order of Gorkha Dakshin Bahu.
Dr. Mohan Singh Saud
Associate Professor, Kailali Multiple Campus
Mohan Singh Saud, PhD, is an Associate Professor of English Language Education, ELT trainer, teacher educator, textbook writer, editor, reviewer and researcher from Nepal. He works at Far Western University, Kailali Multiple Campus, Dhangadhi, Nepal. His areas of interests in research include English language teaching and learning, ELT material development, teachers’ professional development, language policy, English medium instruction (EMI), translanguaging, bi-/multilingualism, teaching English as a second or foreign language, assessment, English language teachers’ training and education, linguistic diversity and globalisation. He has completed his PhD in English education from Tribhuvan University, Nepal.
Bio of Workshop Facilitator
Dr. Basu Prasad Subedi
Assistant Professor, KUSOED
Title of the workshop: Leadership in Education
Dr. Basu Prasad Subedi currently works at Kathmandu University, school of education as a assistant professor in Department of Leadership in Education. Basu does research in Comparative Education, Educational Assessment and Educational Leadership. He completed his MPhil in Educational Leadership and PhD in Educational Leadership from KUSOED.
Dr. Parbati Dhungana
Assisstant Professor, KUSOED
Title of the Workshop: Participatory Action Research
Parbati Dhungana completed her PhD in 2022. She is Coordinator of the Continuing and Professional Education Center (CPEC) at Kathmandu University. She is facilitating many courses at the STEAM Department. She co-authored many textbooks, including Grade 9 and 10 English, published by Sano Thimi Bhaktapur. She presented and published many journal articles and book chapters in national and international spaces. She has more than two decades of teaching experience from Kindergarten to University, with multiple leadership responsibilities. She has been engaging in TPD curriculum planning, designing and implementation in collaboration with governmental and non-governmental institutions since 2016.
